The Ecological Footprint or Carbon Footprint is a sustainability indicator that tells us about the relationship between human consumption and the earth’s resources. It is an accounting tool that measures a nation’s impact on planet earth by comparing a population’s demand on resources with nature’s ability to renew these resources.
The aim of this pilot initiative is to:
Raise regional Carbonprint awareness in the region.
Support individuals individuals in better understanding and control their contributions to the Nation and Global Footprint.
To work with key stakeholders to better understand the Ecological Footprint of Nigeria and monitor consumption patterns in the country.
The Initiative's mission statement of "a national effort to ensure a sustainable future by measuring and understanding the impact of our ways of living on planet earth" is complemented with a set of clearly defined objectives:
Awareness-raising amongst all sectors
Sourcing data integrity
Carbon Foot Print Calculation and Management
Conducting nation-specific research
Contributing to methodological improvements
Researching and recommending in the development of policies.
